Veterans Day Getaway: Dai Sekirinzan

Posted In: Okinawa
On Veterans Day, G and I decided to explore a place where the view would be perfect even on a gloomy day. As i mentioned in my last post, Cape Hedo is the northest tip of the island of Okinawa and a place i’ve been dying to check out. While on the never-ending, yet beautiful, two hour drive we stopped by a couple of cool places and one of those was Dai Sekirinzan. We just saw a sign and decided to stop. According to the flyer, it’s a quasi-national park developed over 200 million years ago from limestone rocks into an expansive karst. This park is part of the northernmost side of the tropical karst, well developed in Papa New Guinea and Indonesia. Okinawa is the only prefecture in Japan where tropical karst exists.
The park is divided into four courses, three of which we explored! We were amazed by the beautiful limestone rocks and the magnificent views of the northern coast. We could actually see Cape Hedo from the observatory! 🙂

Stay tuned, i will finally be posting our Cape Hedo pics soon! 🙂
