Tokyo, Japan

Tokyo, Japan: Day 1

Posted In: Japan | Tokyo | Travel

After living in Okinawa for a year and three months we finally took our first trip! We decided to stick to Japan and chose to visit three of its major cities, Tokyo | Kyoto | Osaka during the course of a week!! Our first stop was Tokyo and let me tell you, we were pretty excited to experience the city atmosphere. We flew into Haneda early in the morning and with a trusty map in hand figured out the cheapest way to get to our hotel. I’m proud of the fact that we didn’t take a single taxi during our stay in mainland!! We heard that it would be ¥7,000 (around $70) for a taxi from the airport to our hotel!! No thanks!

We stayed at The New Sanno Hotel, which is managed by the United States Navy. (I’m thinking of reviewing our hotels so stay tuned for more info.) We left our bags at the hotel and decided to find the shopping district around the Shibuya Station, infamously known for having the busiest crosswalk in the world, while we waited to check-in at 3 pm.

^^ Everybody rides bikes in Japan!! Tokyo left me with the desire to live in a city and ride bikes everywhere! ^^

We couldn’t stop laughing when we noticed this house had a Lamborghini in the garage!! I mean what the hell? The house looks so normal and then BAM! Super expensive car.. Oh Tokyo, you and your luxury cars!

I secretly wish we could’ve explored this area a little more, maybe even do some shopping! We saved shopping for our last stop, but just as we were leaving our hotel on Day 2 we noticed they had an APO (post office), which meant we could’ve shipped our purchases! Oh well, lessons learned. Our first day in Tokyo was pretty low key, the second one, on the other hand, was more interesting. Stay tuned because I’ll be posting about it this week!

There’s a Starbucks on the second floor across the street from the Shibuya station with the best view of the crossing!
