Pros and Cons of Living in Okinawa: Part 1

June 9, 2013
Japan’s Tanabata Festival, also known as the Star Festival, centers around a legendary romance between two celestial lovers 🌌💖✨

Orihime (the star Vega), a weaving princess and Hikoboshi (the star Altair), a hardworking cowherd fall in love at first sight and are cursed to spend eternity separated across the Milky Way galaxy. They’re allowed to meet only once a year on the 7th day of the 7th lunar month. If it rains it’s believed that the lovers have to wait until the following year to meet… thankfully it was a clear day today! 🌙

To celebrate, people write wishes on tanzaru (colorful paper strips) and hang them on the branches of bamboo plants because they are believed to point straight to the heavens🎋✨

I looove how colorful this festival is and so happy to have stumbled upon some early decorations while in Tokyo and Kyoto last week! Got a rare cute photo of me so had to post it before Tanabata ends🏮✴️

📍Kifune Shrine, Kyoto Prefecture
❣️The mountainous area was definitely worth heading 1 hour outside of the city! Kifune Shrine enshrines the God of Water and we got to do a water activated fortune! 💦

📍Tokyo Tanabata decor was found around Asakusa!

Yachimun mani 🩵💙🤎

I started getting manicures at a Japanese salon when I began to work full time for my ✨ mental health ✨ and some self care 💅🏼. I started with solid colors, then magnetic polishes, then I treated myself to a fully custom set… and I haven’t been able to look back.

It’s now been a year and I’ve had the time of my life coming up with monthly dopamine nail designs 🌀! Last month I got a design inspired by Okinawan pottery including a few pieces from own collection 😭 I don’t know how I’m going to surpass this set.

I haven’t been great at taking photos of my nails 🙃 but this set deserved a spot on my feed! Check out my 💅🏼 highlight to see my monthly story videos. Now I’m thinking it’s time to snap some updated photos of my pottery collection 🥹

A stroll through Koza 🩵🌺🌿

The bougainvillea were popping mid-January so I drove all the way to Okinawa City for a much needed creative photography session around Gate 2 Street… only to realize my camera had barely any battery 😅! It’s always something with me and my ADHD.

Here’s a little compilation of #fujifilmx100v and iphone pics all edited on @acolorstory 🫶🏼✨ #okilivingmag

I really struggled to pick my favorite to display on the feed… let me know which one is your favorite!👇🏼

Realized it’s been forever since I posted on the feed and I felt the itch to edit one of the hundreds of beautiful images just collecting imaginary dust in my external hard drive 🥹! So here’s a magical scene I stumbled upon on a beach in #Miyakojima last year!

I’m really hoping that someday soon I’ll feel the motivation to give these images the time and love they deserve 😭. I need to dive back into my trips from the past 2 years and share more with ya’ll. I miss sharing my work… but for now you’ll continue to get crumbs 🤣 sorry!
