Strawberry Picking at Bear Ridge Farms

We finally went strawberry picking!! We never got to do it in Okinawa and on our 3rd spring in North Carolina we finally were able to go. Our friends were the ones that invited us and I’m so glad we joined them! We drove 30 minutes south to the town of Maple Hill to visit Bear Ridge Farms. They gave us a cute little basket to take home and then a quick tutorial on how best to pick the strawberries before we got down to business. I should also add that they had an amazing hand-washing station (sadly did not get a photo) but it was very appreciated during these pandemic times. Pretty sure we only paid like $12 for a basket full! We ate strawberry everything for about a week and ended up having to freeze the rest, but I have been using them to make our kombucha!

^^ we went while the azaleas were blooming and the houses in this area had so many amazing bushes!! ^^

^ We seriously had NO idea that strawberries grew out of the flower!! Color us shocked! Nature is so awesome! ^

^^ Our friends little boy wanted to pay for our strawberries and then asked my husband for his debit card =D ^^

Follow them on Facebook to see all the updates on their strawberry picking, but it’s usually April-May! You can either pick them yourself or buy them at their corner shop (pictured below) where they sell other fruits and veggies, plus a bunch of other local NC food items. They also have veggie subscription box available!!

If you’re PCSing to the Camp Lejeune / MCAS Cherry Point area, or simply planning a visit, make sure you check out the rest of my North Carolina blogposts!!
