Hello there! A ton changes will be going on in my life during the next few months and I wanted to share the exciting news with you!!
I will be traveling on Thanksgiving week back to the States to visit my husband, who’s currently in school! I’m super excited because I get to experience the last bit of fall and a bit of winter while i’m there; a nice break from this hot/humid fall we experience in Okinawa. We are flying down my sister-in-law (who’s in school at Iowa State) and we will be driving to Oklahoma to spend Thanksgiving with our close friends who were stationed in Okinawa with us! I will be staying for a few weeks until my husband graduates from school and then we’re off to Puerto Rico to spend Christmas with our families!!
We haven’t been home in almost three years and we cannot wait to spend the holidays there. Christmas in Puerto Rico is extra special because it lasts almost a month! I’m looking forward to eating ALL the food, showering our family with love, meeting my niece (!!!) and exploring more of the other little island I call home.
But here’s the twist.. I will actually be staying in PR so that I can finish my last semester of school! You see when my husband got his (surprise) orders to Okinawa in 2012 I still had a semester left before graduating with my Bachelors Degree in Journalism, but instead of staying home and being apart for two years I (of course) decided to go on this amazing adventure with him. I do not regret this decision one bit, but it sucks to be 18 credits away from having a degree.
There is no way for me to finish my degree online or here in Okinawa, so I was planning on finishing it whenever we moved back to the States, but because we’ve extended our stay in Okinawa (hooray!) that wouldn’t happen for another 3 years. I really don’t want to wait that long and since we’re already going home for Christmas, I have decided to kill two birds with one stone and stay behind to finish my degree. I am both nervous and excited to get it over with.
So what does this mean? I will be out of Okinawa for 6 months, but trust me I will continue blogging my adventures, only this time Puerto Rico will be my home base. It will be a very different few months here on the blog, but i’m excited to show you more of Puerto Rico. I am also hoping to recruit some Okinawa Bloggers to guest post once or twice a month to keep some Okinawa related content on the blog for all of you Oki peeps.
I hope you stick around while this blog go through a weird, but exciting phase!
