Rummaging through

This friday we’re moving out of our hotel room, which has been like our home for almost two months now and we’re moving in with some friend of ours, since we only have one week or less left here and we would like to save some cash. I was cleaning our apartment and i opened the drawer of our nightstand and i found a huge ziplock bag full of everything i have given my husband, the letters i sent while he was in Boot Camp, MCT (Marine Combat Training) and his MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) School, also pictures of me, his valentines gift, christmas cards, mixtapes, among other things. I looked through the whole bag and i couldn’t believe it.
I was just reminded of how far we’ve come since those days. Looking back it feels like such a “movie thing”, having no communication with someone, only relying on a pen and a piece of paper, dropping off letters almost everyday, waiting anxiously for the mail man, running outside after he dropped off the mail, the disappointment of those days without receiving any letters, the uncontrollable smile whenever there was one, reading about his days 3-4 days late and just wishing one could be there to comfort him. Most people will never experience something like this and i feel like it helped me grow, it made me appreciate technology so much more and it made me look up to those people who, a couple of decades ago, lived with that every single day (like my grandparents).
*sighs*
All hail technology.
