Fushimi Inari Shrine (伏見稲荷大社)

Posted In: Japan | Kyoto | Travel

On our first full day in Kyoto we did a couple of fun things but my favorite was the Fushimi Inari Shrine! I think it was the attraction i was most excited about visiting. The Shinto shrine was put in place on a mountain top, in order to worship Inari, the God of Rice. There are several fox statues throughout the shrine because they are thought to be the messengers. The orange torii gates, are traditional Japanese gates, all of which were donated by those who have been successful in business as a way to show gratitude.

^^ After praying for happiness and success we decided to buy a mini torii gate (¥800) and leave it in the shrine! ^^

^^ Each torii gate has the names and donation date on the back. It took me by surprise when i noticed this detail^^

^^ Although a big adjustment from the Tokyo subway, i loved the older look of the train stations in Kyoto ^^
