Today is the first day of The Nectar Collective‘s amazing new project, the Creative Collective. If you don’t read her blog (which you should) here’s the announcement post with all of the juicy details. The Creative Collective is a year-long community building, creative program — with 23 prompts it will sure keep you creating in 2014. You’ve already read my New Year’s Resolutions as well as my Blogging Goals for this New Year, why not add another post to the mix ;).
the first prompt is: a word that you want to focus on in 2014.
Find a piece of paper, cardboard, old pizza boxes, whatever, and write your word out. You can include photos, magazine clippings, paint splotches, random household items, or anything, really, that embodies this word to you. Make it colorful, if you like. Then hang it somewhere in your house or bedroom where it can inspire you and help you maintain your focus throughout the year.
I spent a couple of days thinking about what word to choose. Curiosity brought me to Pinterest and Google in search of other people’s words. As i read a list the word soar catched my attention; so i googled the definition. On Vocabulary.com i read the following, “to soar means more than just to fly; it means to rise swiftly, to feel the wind slipping below you as you ride it higher, higher, higher. Flying is just moving through the air. Soaring, though, suggests exhilaration, even joy”.
and that’s how – soar – became my word of the year.
This year i want to focus on enjoying the roller-coaster ride that is life, to focus on the now rather than what’s yet to come. I want to leave aside the ifs, ands and buts. I want to go see the world, keep exploring my home turf, enjoy the lazy days, but work hard as well. I want to leave all the doubts behind and keep working on this little blog of mine. I want to better my skills, get creative and enjoy the process.
For my art, i didn’t have time to buy supplies to craft a cute glittery banner like i wanted. I have this world map in my living room and for christmas i bought this origami garland and taped it on top of the map. I used clothes pins to hang the letter stencils and i gotta say i kinda like it! All of the elements go nicely together and this way i will see my word everyday.
