As we slowly get closer to February 14th, i’ve been thinking of how my husband and i should spend the day. I don’t really like dressing up and going out on this specific day, mostly because everybody does this and restaurants are usually packed! Last year we bought a 60” TV on Valentine’s, a nice present for the both of us.
We had recently moved to Okinawa and to be honest I didn’t know much about cooking, so G would cook for us every afternoon. I decided to give him the day off and made a delicious Barbecue Pizza and Red Velvet Cupcakes from scratch! I like the idea of spending Valentine’s day at home away from all the tacky Valentine traditions.
Here’s a list of 7 date ideas for spending Valentine’s Day at home:
breakfast date -> Make your love breakfast in bed. If he/she is like my husband and does not accept food in the bedroom, wake up early and make a delicious breakfast feast. That way he/she will wake up to the smell of coffee and bacon! There’s no better way to wake up.
build a fort and watch a movie -> I don’t know about you but i used to love doing this as a kid. Why not bring out the kid in you both by build a fort. Grab some sheets and get creative! You don’t have to watch a romantic movie, how about your favorite childhood movie, or if your Anti Valentine’s Day watch a scary movie. You can even have a marathon of your favorite TV show.
puzzle night -> At the risk of sounding like an old lady i love puzzles! This may not be for you but there’s probably someone out there who will appreciate this idea. Go to the store and buy a 1,000 piece puzzle. Spend your night listening to music, talking and putting the puzzle together. Buy some puzzle glue and frame it!
cuddles by the bonfire -> Have a nice backyard? Make a bonfire! Grab a blanket and your smores supplies, have dessert outside and cuddle under the blanket. While your out there lay your blanket on the grass and look at the stars. Have a telescope? Even better!
spa night at home -> Check out this 25 DIY Spa Night Ideas with Recipes! Why not choose some DIY recipes and treat yo’ self to a pampering night in. Buy a bath bomb from Lush Cosmetics, light some candles and fill up two glasses with red wine.
write a menu and cook together -> One of our favorite things to do is cooking together. Instead of going out to dinner why not write a fancy menu and have a blast making it! Play some music and dance in the middle of the kitchen while you’re at it. Dress up your dinning room table, light some candles and have a romantic dinner.
lazy night in -> order some take out, eat in front of the TV and watch stand-up comedy all night. If you’re not into stand-up comedy, when was the last time you played Mario Kart? Pick a video game you both like, have some fun and get competitive with your love.
