(this is the only picture i have of myself as a kid)
I was born in a small
island in the Caribbean, Puerto Rico, to be precise. I am the eldest of three
kids, only girl. My fondest memories as a child were of my grandparents taking
care of me during the day while my mom and dad worked. I skipped Pre-K. I took
kindergarden at a small school close to my grandparent’s house and when it was
time to start elementary school we moved closer to my parent’s school of
choice. I studied for 12 years in the same school (in PR private schools are
all in one place, unlike in the US), I always went to after school programs on
the same street where the school was at and when I was old enough I walked home
from school. I was a straight A student until fifth grade, I struggled with my
grades for a couple of years but as high school got closer I got better at it.
I was never a straight-A student again, but I did good enough to graduate with
honors. I loved science throughout high school, but now that I look back, I
think it was because of the amazing teacher we had. I decided to major in
Biology when I applied for college, but after a year and a half I knew that
wasn’t for me. I met my husband on three of my science/math classes in college,
so I am grateful for that. Five years after we met here we are, married and
living abroad.
