Yomitan, Okinawa

The Fourth of July in Yomitan Village

Posted In: Okinawa
For some reason 4th of July has been the holiday G and I have been able to celebrate together throughout the years.
This 4th of July we decided to spend the day at the beach with friends. The day before we saw a post on Facebook about a ‘Jazz and Salsa Festival’ open to both Americans and Okinawans at the Army Base and since it was taking place by the beach we decided to make Torii Beach our 4th of July destination! G made the most scrumptious and colorful kabobs that morning to grill at the beach. We came prepared with our mini grill, enough kabobs to feed an army and a cooler filled with drinks. Sadly as we walked to the festival entrance we learned they weren’t allowing food/drinks inside and man were we pissed!! We hoped back in our cars and drove around looking for another beach, we found Nirai Beach about five minutes down the road from Torii Station.

^^beautiful church by the sea^^
Around 6:30 we were told the beach was closing, we decided to go back to the festival to see the scheduled fireworks.
^^aren’t these wine barrels bad ass?! i think so!^^
I really tried using the manual settings on my camera to capture the fireworks. I definitely failed, lol.

We went back to the festival the next day for ‘Salsa Night’ and had tons of fun dancing our asses off. We felt like we were back home in Puerto Rico. I’ve never been into listening/dancing salsa but once you live so far away from home, you start missing little things you didn’t appreciate before. Check out this video I posted on instagram of us dancing!

Hope you all enjoyed this long weekend, because we sure did! 🙂
