2015 Reading Challenge: Part 8

Posted In: Books | Reading Challenge

I’ve decided to take on this Popsugar Reading Challenge i found on Pinterest (follow me!), as one of my 2015 New Years resolutions. This is the eight round of books i’ve read. Missed the last posts? Part 1 – Part 2 – Part 3 – Part 4 – Part 5 – Part 6 – Part 7.

  • A book based in high school – Love Like Crazy by: Megan Squires
  • A book with non-human characters – Carry On by: Rainbow Rowell
  • A book with a color in the title – Grey by: E.L. James

Love like Crazy was a spontaneous purchase because I just felt like reading an easy going YA book and it was only $2.99 on the Kindle!! This book really surprised me and I LOVED it! The book tells the story of Eppie, a loner girl who had a rough childhood resulting in her suicide attempt at just 8 years old. She meets Lincoln at the vet after saving a street dog who was hit by a car. This day changed everything and they are just the cutest couple you will ever read of (cue the butterflies in the stomach) ! I don’t want to spoil it for you, but if you enjoy reading young adult books with a twist, I cannot recommend this book enough!

Grey. Ok, i can’t believe i’m admitting to reading this book but here it goes, lol. I read the Fifty Shades of Grey series when they came out (before everyone started hating on them) and even though I realize E.L. James writing is kind of repetitive/crappy i enjoyed the books. So, I was interested in reading the book told through Christian Grey’s perspective and let me say, it was so much better than the ones told through Anastasia’s perspective (she sucks!! inner goddess and all). Do I have to write a sypnosis? Nah, I think you guys all know the story.

Carry On, the newest book by Rainbow Rowell (a favorite of mine). This book was kind of hard to get into because it felt A LOT like a Harry Potter-ish story and it took me a while to get past that; once I did WOW what a story! What i didn’t realize it until much later was that this story is based on the book that Cath and Wren are so obsessed with in Fangirl (another book by Rowell), the one they wrote the fan fiction of. Rainbow Rowell couldn’t get the characters out of her head, so she decided to write Baz and Simon’s story. Moving on.

The story follows Simon Snow, “the worst chosen one who’s ever been chosen” as described in the back cover. He’s chosen to save the magical world from the Insidious Humdrum, an evil being trying to rid the world of magic, but being the only magicial to come from the “normal” world let’s just say he is not so skilled. His eighth and last year at Watford School of Magicks is not going well and EVERYTHING is about to change.

I loved this description of the book, “Carry On is a ghost story, a love story, a mystery and a melodrama. It has just as much kissing and talking as you’d expect from a Rainbow Rowell story—but far, far more monsters”.

24/52 books read! I have purchased 4 more, so let’s see if I can reach 30 before December 31st.
Any easy read recommendations? I’m so close to the end! Any of you guys thinking of taking this challenge next year?
