2015 Reading Challenge: Part 7

Posted In: Reading Challenge

I’ve decided to take on this Popsugar Reading Challenge i found on Pinterest (follow me!), as one of my 2015 New Years resolutions. This is the seventh round of books i’ve read. Missed the last posts? Part 1 – Part 2 – Part 3 – Part 4 – Part 5 – Part 6.

  • A book by a female author – The Girl on the Train by: Paula Hawkins
  • A book a friend recommended – Orphan Train by: Christina Baker Kline
  • A book by someone under 30 – Love Fortunes and Other Disasters by: Kimberly Karalius

The Girl on the Train is a thriller-like story, that anyone and everyone is reading. Rachel’s daily routine includes taking the same commuter train and every time the train stops in the same spot. This stop gives her a chance to watch a “perfect” couple eating breakfast on their deck. One day she sees something shocking and offers to help the police. All of a sudden she has inserted herself into the investigation, as well as the lives of everyone involved. This book will suck you in instantly and you will not want to turn away!!

Orphan Train follows the unexpected friendship of two women, one a 91-year old with a hidden past as an orphan train rider and the other a troubled teen in the foster system. One last chance of doing community service is keeping Molly out of being kicked out of her foster home and being sent to juvie. She is sent to help clean out an elderly woman’s attic, where her rough past is all boxed up. As she helps Vivian sort through her possessions, Molly discovers that they aren’t as different as they seem to be. Vivian, a young Irish immigrant orphaned in NYC is put on a train to the Midwest with hundreds of other kids in the hopes of getting “adopted”. This was such a great story and I whole heartedly recommend you to add this one to your to-read list.

Love Fortunes and Other Disasters was a great little YA read. It took me a while to figure out what was going on, but the book tells the story of Fallon, a obsessively clean girl thanks to her Health Inspector parents. She starts High School in Grimbaud, a town where love is the center of everything. Before school starts everyone lines up at Zita’s Love Charms Shop to get a peek into their (future) love life. Fallon’s fortune states that she will NEVER find love and she isn’t the only one who received a bad fortune from Zita. The kids realize that she has mysterious taken over the whole town and together they decide to take back control of their own fate by getting rid of her.

22/50 books read !!
